Are you prepared for all eventualities?

Sudden incapacitation, deteriorating illness or loss of ability to communicate means you may no longer be able to state your wishes at a time when you most want to be heard.

Wouldn’t it give you peace of mind to know that your affairs will be dealt with by someone you trust?

With a registered Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) in place, you can rest assured that the person speaking for you is chosen and trusted by you.

There are two different types of LPA: financial affairs, and health & welfare.

We can draw up the legal documents required for either, or both, and submit them for registration by the Office of The Public Guardian.

If you lose capacity without an LPA in place, your next of kin, or other appropriate person (remember, you will have no say in who that person is) will have to apply to the Court of Protection to be appointed as your Deputy.  Realistically, this can take more than 4 months, during which time your finances cannot be accessed and your medical team will be solely responsible for deciding what is in your best interests.  Read more here about this retrospective process and the associated costs.

Taking the time now to think and talk through your wishes and worries will make a huge difference in practical and emotional terms when it really matters.

What can you do next?

Make an appointment to see us at our office or a location convenient for you.

Read more about the topic on our website, and talk to your loved ones about your thoughts.

When we meet, we’ll talk you through all the options open to you and advise you on next steps.  We can complete and register the paperwork for you.

We recommend you spea to your GP before finalising your Health & Welfare LPA.

You should also chat to your chosen attorneys before finalising either type LPA.  It would be wise to ensure they are happy to act on your behalf, and they understand your wishes.
